Shout out to women winemakers
In preparing for the now-postponed 3-day National Women’s Congress, the fundraising team approached a number of women winemakers, asking them to donate wine for our evening functions. Our requests are now moot: you will have already read how the event will now be very different. But in their responses, the women spoke of a difficult year, and we can certainly imagine the drop in revenue from closed restaurants and plummeting cellar door visits. When are are next buying wine, check out these women on our National Congress website.
More and more women own and work in the vines, but there are still very few involved in the actual making of wine. Since promotions tend to focus on the wine and entertainments offered at the cellar door, it’s easy to miss the maker if we’re not paying attention. In the next few months, if you do buy wine, you might like to keep an eye out for these women:
Sarah Gough – Box Grove Vineyard
Céline Rousseau – Eden Road Wines
Carla Rodeghiero – Sapling Yard
Caroline Mooney – Bird on a Wire
Sarah Collingwood – owner at Four Winds Vineyard
Stephanie O’Toole – Mt Horrocks Vineyard
